Some time ago, Judy Clark - our Conservation and biodiversity advisor, persuaded Hastings Borough Council (HBC) not to cut some verges in the Country Park car park, in order to let the bee orchids (Ophrys apifera) have a chance to flower.
HBC didn't cut the verges and it worked ! Eighteen flower spikes have been seen so far month, all coming into flower, and there could be more to come.
Judy, with two colleagues did a species count and they recorded over 60 species.
There is also a lot of Grass Vetchling (Lathyrus nissolia) in flower in the verges as well, it looks really pretty.
